WASH is the collective term for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, their interdependent in nature therefore these three core issues are grouped together. Each issue has a separate field of work however they are dependent on the presence of the other.
Natural Resources in Jordan are scarce; water supplies are becoming insufficient as a result of the sudden population surge due to the influx of refugees and climate change. Jordan is a poor country in terms of natural resources, with an average availability of 120 m3 of water per capita per year (UN Habitat, 2012), Jordan is well below standard poverty level of 500 cubic meters per capita. Here at Horizons we aspire to change citizen’s habits by raising awareness and giving alternatives and solutions.
Horizons have always been part of the Jordanian Response Plan for Syrian Refugees under the WASH task force to better their lives, in cooperation with UNICEF and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
